The Metsä Board mill in Husum, Sweden, is an integrated carton board and pulp mill that produces folding box carton board, uncoated white liners based on fresh fibres and bleached chemical pulp. On April 11th, Metsä Board inaugurated the new version of its folding box machine on site. In 2016, Metsä Board commissioned a new carton board machine for folding boxes at Husum, BM1, with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year. In 2023, an investment of 230 million euros was made to increase the annual capacity of the BM1 folding boxes machine to meet the growing demand for sustainably produced packaging materials that promote the circular economy. With an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes of carton board for folding boxes, the BM1 is the now the largest and most modern in Europe and operates with 98% renewable energy.
